ACCUROOF’S COLLABORATION SECURES CHARITY FACILITY RE-ROOF
AccuRoof, part of SIG Roofing, has successfully collaborated to secure a new roof for the Roseberry Community Consortium (RCC), a children’s charity experiencing severe roof leaks at its Stockton-on-Tees facility.
RCC is a Northeastern charity that supports disadvantaged children and young people across the Tees Valley. The organisation provides opportunities for young people who may face disadvantage, social isolation, educational difficulties, or financial hardship. Its activities include recreational and educational opportunities designed to develop young people’s skills, confidence, and ability to participate positively within their communities. The charity also offers music, dance, singing, life skills, education, fitness, and other creative and developmental programmes. (Register of Charities).
When a leak at the charity’s facilities worsened, Martin Quigley, the Specification Manager for AccuRoof in the North-East, was asked to visit the premises to undertake a roof condition survey. He initially intended to use a liquid waterproofing system to extend the life of the existing roof, but on inspection, it was discovered that the existing roof sheets contained asbestos and would need to be removed and replaced. This presented a significant financial challenge for the charity, whose resources are focused on supporting local children and young people.
Determined to help, AccuRoof contacted its parent company, SIG Roofing, and specifically the Industrial Roofing team, who agreed to supply suitable new roofing sheets for the refurbishment free of charge as a charitable donation. With materials secured, AccuRoof then approached Gary Smith of Roofix Limited to request assistance with the roofing works. Gary and his team generously agreed to donate their time and labour to the charity, allowing the roof replacement works to proceed.
As the project progressed, it became clear that additional works were required to ensure the roof was properly completed and detailed. Additional flashings were manufactured and installed, and further detailing was required at the wall interfaces and associated areas. AccuRoof provided its expertise and liquid waterproofing systems to complete the necessary wall and junction detailing, ensuring these areas were properly waterproofed and integrated with the new roof installation.
The project’s successful completion was made possible by a genuine collaborative effort among several parties. AccuRoof undertook the original roof survey, identified the asbestos and developed an alternative solution, coordinated the project, and provided the necessary liquid waterproofing systems and technical support.
The SIG Industrial Roofing Centre identified suitable surplus roofing sheets held in Scotland and helped facilitate their transfer to Middlesbrough. The SIG Roofing branch in Middlesbrough supplied and delivered the materials for this project. Roofix Ltd generously donated the labour and time required to undertake the roof replacement works.
“Through combined efforts, the Roseberry Community Consortium was provided with a renewed and weatherproof roof without incurring the normal costs associated with materials and installation,” said Martin Quigley, from AccuRoof.
“The project demonstrates how manufacturers, suppliers, contractors and roofing specialists can work together to make a meaningful difference to a local charity. The completed roof provides a secure, improved facility from which this charity can continue its great work supporting disadvantaged young people across the Tees Valley.”
Final word from Adam Sayers, secretary of Roseberry Community Consortium:
“The changes we can now make to children’s lives through our charity cannot be overstated. By offering new skills and learning opportunities to our young people, we are making a real difference. Replacing the leaking roof means we can now use this space for many different projects, building functional skills such as car and bike maintenance and woodworking. Our users asked for this, and we could only make it happen with the belief and support of these local businesses. This building will now give local young people a chance to learn skills they might otherwise miss out on. All the trustees and volunteers would like to send our heartfelt thanks for the donation of both time and materials.”
